Im a visual artist but ive studied a bit of music making. And i did get started with a few tracks, bu     See More tarted really liking them, i felt even more overwhelmed bcz i know a bit the sounds i wanna make, but i dont know HOW, like what plugins, what are the effects and samples called... And it all just feels like too much at once. I also feel idk enough music theory and so i cant get started yet. I know its important to just mess with the software and get used to it, but for some reason, im scared. 😅 The truth is, im really scared!! Messing it up and being at a loss is so scary both in painting and music. Huh. After focusing on another project (my first self-released vinyl! ), I'm trying to get back into making live sets. I've changed up the outboard gear I'm using a bit, so I recognize there's some learning curve there. But overall, I feel really stuck! I keep starting over again and again, feeling really unsatisfied with the (lack of) progress I'm making.

This seemed easier before. I had a lot of fun just playing about and leaving some things up to happy accidents. Now, though, I'm feeling frustrated and stalled.

1. The first usually stems from the isolation of making music, with the contradiction that I'm never comfortable making mus     See More I'm by myself. (probably from fear of judgment, and the tendency to get distracted when working with others)
2. We're so used to consuming fully polished, mixed, mastered, high fidelity songs almost all the time that it can make working on a demo feel near pointless because it sounds so far from that "professional" sound.
