Thank you for the video, very informative. I’d like to share a couple of alternatives that I like to use in my R&B production:

Rhodes: Massive has a preset library with one cal     See More e Rhodes. It’s my now Go-To rhodes sound. It has a very slight Chorus to it that’s tasteful, the sustain is heavenly & it sounds very modern in terms of mix/EQ.

Strings: if you thought Session Strings sounds nice, I recommend EWQL Hollywood Orchestra if you’re looking for that “real” acoustic sound. It’s not cheap, but worth it.

Piano: I like Grandeur out of the Native Instruments pack. To me, it just sounds really clean, and I like how it doesn’t sound too harsh in the upper-mid frequencies.    See Less

I share that passion for real R&B coming back, I’m an RnB artist myself and really look up to people like Lucky and Dmile. I saw Lucky live at Wireless and he was one of the best performers I’ve ever seen; truly born to perform and show the power of vulnerability through true RnB.

Random example about RnB changing: I remember listening to Journals but Justin Bieber and a lot of RnB lovers will say that’s his best album, it was amazing and influenced by classic RnB. Then comparing it to his newer Changes album and it just kind of shows where RnB has gone and how surface level it can be with it’s intertwinement with pop/trap. Obviously I love a lot of that new sound, but it can sound pretty lifeless without having that texture, layering, smoothness and raw emotion! That’s what RnB is about to it’s core for me and we gotta bring that back mannn😩    See Less
